Do I really need more Loft Insulation?

Bring your Insulation up to standard

Most of us already have some level of insulation in our loft space but did you know the current recommendation is for 270mm (roughly 11 inches)? Anything less than that and you could be losing heat from your property that is an easy fix to prevent.

One further thing to consider is that compressing fibre glass loft insulation dramatically reduces its efficacy. If your loft is boarded and the boards are tight to the joists then there’s a very good chance that it has been done wrong. By putting loft legs down however, we can raise the level of your floor and be sure that the insulation is 100% doing what it should be.

Understanding the challenges

Can loft insulation cause damp in my property?

This is something to be really cautious of with loft insulation because if its not installed correctly then not only can it cause damp in the living areas of your property but also in the loft space itself, particularly in properties that have a water tank in the space.

We will of course make sure that any and all required ventilation is included in your package and that the installation is carried out in such a way that you can have full peace of mind that no damp will build up.

How does Loft Insulation Work?

Barrier Creation
Loft insulation works by slowing down the transfer of heat between your home’s interior and the outside environment. Think of it like wearing a woolly hat in winter. It doesn’t generate heat itself, but it keeps your body warmth from escaping into the air.
The insulation acts as a protective layer, reducing the amount of warm air that escapes from your home through the loft. This means your house stays warmer for longer after your heating has been switched off.
With better heat retention, your home can maintain more consistent and comfortable temperatures. This means your heating system doesn’t have to work as hard, especially during colder months.
With your home maintaining heat more effectively, you will need less energy to heat it up again. This results in lower energy usage and reduced energy bills.

Installation Timeline

Day 1
Day 1-13
Day 14
Day 28
Site Assessment
First, we’ll conduct a comprehensive review of your property. This involves measuring the size of your loft space and assessing the effectiveness of your current insulation to see if it meets today’s standards.
Designing Your Solution
After the site assessment, we’ll advise you on what actions you should take to bring the insulation of your property up to the current standards. If your loft is boarded, we may also recommend the installation of loft legs to remove any chance of insulation compression.
Clearing The Space
Prior to our arrival, we’ll ask you to clear the loft space so that our contract team can work unhindered in the space.
Installation Process
Once approved, we’ll proceed with the installation at a date that works best for you. This process usually takes 1-2 days. Once completed, you’ll be able to start reaping the benefits of your newly insulated loft, effectively trapping in heat and saving you money.
